In Elliot Erler's Soundweavers: The Astral Rogue, Sae, a wealthy and influential man, possesses the unique ability to negate wish-granting stars. This "gift," once hailed as heroic, is merely a convenient tool for Sae, until a letter from a past lover reveals a catastrophic wish has been granted. The consequences threaten to unravel reality, echoing a past event that left lasting scars. More concerned with the potential scandal than the impending doom, Sae must race against time to undo the wish before others exploit the stars' power for their own selfish gain. His empire, and the very fabric of reality, hang precariously in the balance.

Review Soundweavers
Oh my goodness, "Soundweavers: The Astral Rogue" completely captivated me! It's one of those books that throws you headfirst into a vibrant, complex world and just trusts you to keep up – and you will keep up because it's that good! Elliot Erler has crafted something truly special here, a unique blend of Victorian aesthetics, steampunk ingenuity, and a touch of otherworldly magic that creates a setting unlike anything I've encountered before.
The initial setup, with Sae, this incredibly wealthy and powerful individual who can seemingly control wish-granting stars, is immediately intriguing. His nonchalant attitude towards his own abilities, prioritizing the potential social fallout over the actual existential threat, is fascinating. He’s not your typical hero, and that’s exactly what makes him so compelling. And then there's Tae, his enigmatic ex-lover, whose actions set the plot in motion – a beautifully complicated character whose secrets slowly unravel throughout the story. Their relationship, fraught with tension and unspoken history, forms a core element of the narrative that kept me guessing until the very end.
The world-building is exceptional. Erler masterfully introduces new elements at just the right pace, never overwhelming the reader but always leaving you wanting more. I loved the way the story unfolds, dropping hints and clues that are brilliantly interwoven into the narrative. The questions you develop early on are cleverly answered later, deepening your investment in the unfolding mystery and making you want to dive even deeper into this richly imagined world. The author's masterful blend of "showing" and "telling" ensures that you're never bogged down in unnecessary exposition, instead being swept along by the engaging plot and vividly described scenes.
The descriptions themselves are simply breathtaking; the city, scarred by past events, feels both decadent and decaying, a perfect backdrop for the unfolding drama. The concept of wish-granting stars, inherently powerful yet dangerously unpredictable, is both thrilling and terrifying. The blend of fairytale elements, folklore, and historical references adds an unexpected layer of depth and intrigue, making the world feel both familiar and utterly unique.
While the first half focuses more on establishing this richly detailed world and its inhabitants, the second half expertly develops the characters and their interwoven narratives. The relationships between the characters are complex and nuanced, adding layers of intrigue and suspense. The pacing is excellent; the narrative builds steadily, leading to a crescendo that left me breathless. The ending, while satisfying, also leaves you with a strong desire for more—I'm desperately hoping for a sequel! This isn't just a story about magic and wish fulfillment; it’s a story about power, manipulation, and the messy realities of human relationships, all set against the backdrop of a truly breathtaking fantasy world. Highly recommend!
